(Gift illustration)
How it works
 |
You identify a work of art you would like to give to the Guggenheim. |
 |
The gift will be considered
by the Guggenheim’s curators; if it is appropriate for the Guggenheim’s
collection, the curators will advise you that they will recommend it
to the Board of Trustees for acceptance to the collection. |
 |
You irrevocably transfer the work of art to the Guggenheim, and the Board of Trustees formally accepts it. |
Benefits
- For outright and fractional gifts, you receive gift credit
from the Guggenheim and an income tax deduction for the appraised value of the
work at the time of your gift (in the case of a fractional gift, all deductions
are based on the lesser of the value of the work at the date of the initial
transfer and its value at the time of a subsequent transfer). You pay no
capital gains tax, provided your gift satisfies the "related
use" requirements of the IRS. Bequests to the Guggenheim are deductible
for estate tax purposes.
